Jak
Boumans (1945) is principal consultant with Electronic
Media Reporting, a private Dutch consultancy specialised
in content strategy. He has a publishing background.
Between 1970 and 1980 he was involved in the encyclopedia
departments of VNU and Kluwer and got involved in text
management. From 1980 he got involved in electronic
publishing, running a videotex studio. In 1984 he launched
on behalf VNU Business Publications a daily online newsletter
for the computer industry from London. In 1987 he was
part of the production team that produced the first
Dutch subscription legal CD-ROM for Kluwer. In 1990
he started the consultancy Electronic Media Reporting.
He produced market research reports on CD-I (1992) and
executed project management for electronic publishing
projects. In 1996 he produced a business plan for an
online alert service for 9 Dutch newspaper publishers
on the basis of the Belgian Central Station/Mediargus
service. The company performed assignments for ministries
(Economic Affairs), international organisations (European
Commission, OECD), national organisations (KVGO, GOC)
and companies (VNU, Kluwer, PinkRoccade). It also fulfilled
two secretariats for professional new media organisations.
He wrote a manual Online Handboek in
1986 and a manual on CD-ROM production in 1994. He has
been editor-in-chief of Tele.combrief and a member of
the Editorial Board of the magazine Interactive Media
International. He writes for national and international
trade magazine on electronic publishing and the content
industry. He has been a member of the jury for the Europrix
(1998-2003), for the EPPY Awards (1997-2001) and for
the NetMedia European Online Journalism Awards 2000.
